Pierre Potier center

The Centre Pierre Potier was inaugurated on 18 November 2009. It hosts, in a building of 5000 m2, a Service and Research Unit (USR 3505), the ITAV, and a business incubator dedicated to biotechnology. The original idea of this cohabitation was born 10 years ago in the mind of Alain Boudet, French researcher in biology, member of the Academy of Sciences and of the Academy of Technologies. His wish: to make these two worlds, one focused on innovation, the other on creating, more permeable. The Pierre Potier Centre, property of Toulouse Métropole, is part of a real estate company dedicated to the creation and innovation of more than 20,000 m2.

How to reduce often too long delays between research of innovative processes and their marketing? It is the challenge that the Pierre Potier Centre takes up offering researchers and innovative companies in biotechnology a place to work together and transmit their knowledge.
The 5000 m2 building has been designed with this goal: partnership and exchange. It is divided into two parts of 2500 m2 each, one dedicated to researchers (ITAV) and the other start-up companies. The two entities are connected by common places (cafeteria, meeting room  ...) to facilitate collaboration, exchange and enable the development of new joint projects.

The business incubator

The Centre Pierre Potier Business Incubator hosts biotech startups. Themes: Life sciences in the broadest sense, cancer in the strict sense. Some of these startups are from the ITAV's part of the Pierre Potier Centre.

It offers 8 lots of 140 m2 including laboratory space and two adjoining offices. It also has common technical areas (laundry, cold 4° and hot 37°) and allows privileged access to three technology platforms (chemistry, imaging and nanobiotechnology) in the Research area of the Pierre Potier Centre (ITAV).

Startups are selected by a dedicated committee, with complementary skills, according to six criteria:

- Projects in start-up phase or company of less than 4 years
- Economic viability of the project,
- Scientific quality and innovative nature of the project,
- Potential for job creation,
- Synergy project with ITAV technological platforms
- Synergy project within Oncopole economic and scientific environment

Since October 6, 2010, the incubator of the Centre Pierre Potier has the AFNOR quality certification on business incubators, a first in France for a business incubator dedicated to biotechnology.

Testimony

« It's one of the reasons that led us to join the Pierre Potier business incubator. We can continue to have a high-level technological tool, located in the Oncopole and which, in other circumstances, would be inaccessible to SMEs. »
