Health, a work in progress

Do our lifestyles, our daily behavior have an impact on cancer? What remains out of our control? What is the place of mere chance? A web documentary answers without prejudice to these questions. Objectives: to better adapt our lifestyle and collectively prevent disease.

Cancer, what is it?

The cancer arises from the occurrence of genetic abnormalities in a cell. This results in uncontrolled proliferation, which leads to the formation of a tumor. Since 2004, cancer mortality precedes cardiovascular disease and accidents.  Instructional videos offer you understand in a few minutes, the main characteristics of cancerous diseases.

  • Every second, our body fight thousands of cancers
During our lives, thousands of cancer cells are produced and removed or repaired by complex processes . But sometimes age or external events disrupt this process. This is when the disease develops.
  • Are there more cancers than before?
Yes: this increase is natural! We are living longer, the population increases, more cancers are detected today. The cases thus increases proportionally, but the risk of having one is the same as in the past. Environmental factor, which is the subject of many studies, have a significant share in the increase in cancers.
  • We say cancer"s": why?
This disease can affect all organs of our body. Furthermore, from an individual to another, the cancers vary. Even within tumor cells there are different! This is what makes this disease so difficult to treat. The research provides an understanding of the involved cellular mechanisms in finding more effective treatments.
  • Are we all equal, regardless of where we live?
No There are strong regional inequalities in France and worldwide. Rich countries account for example 10 to 20 times more cancers (colon, breast, prostate) that poor countries. Knowing that the detection instruments of the disease are not the same over the entire surface of the globe ...
  • Cancer, a universal health
Worldwide, cancer mortality exceeds the cumulative mortality due to tuberculosis, cholera and AIDS (source: WHO).
  • Is cancer contagious?
No! Cancer is not a virus or a bacterium: it does not get caught!
There is no risk to spend time cancer patients, to touch them, shake their hand or even drink from the same glass.
